Florida trip

This is just a quick update to let everyone know that I had a nice trip to Florida. I got to see my grandmother, cousin Alice and Uncle Dick. Despite the red tide, I was able to relax on the beach for a bit. It was good to get away for a little bit because I had started to get a little stressed out. Tomorrow I am off to Boston to visit with all the fam up there.

On the Peace Corps front...I am staging in Philly. Staging is a couple of days in the states before I take off for Senegal. During staging I will be meeting the other PCVs that will be going over with me. We get some brief training and we start all of our shots. I will be on a plane to Senegal the evening of the 20th. That's all for now!

Happy 25th Mom and Dad!

Today is my parents 25th wedding anniversary...I think that is pretty incredible. Congratulations to them!

Tomorrow is my last day at work and over the last two I have accumulated a ton of paper and computer files. I have been busy going through them and finishing up a few projects. I have to say that leaving work doesn't seem real yet. I am going to be very sad to leave. Everyone here has been so great to me and I am really going to miss the personal and professional support that they have given.

I am excited about beginning my new adventure. Before I hit the road for Senegal I am going on a tour of the east coast. After packing up, hopefully most of my apartment, this weekend, I fly to Florida for a few days to see my grams then I am off to Boston to see Mimi and Papa and the rest of the family. Then there is probably going to be more packing, moving and cleaning my apartment before the end of the month. Labor day weekend I am going to Ohio to see my friends but mostly I am going to see their two dogs Daisy and Chloe :) After that I am going to stay put at my parents and figure out exactly what to pack for Senegal.

As you can see I am going to be a very busy bee so I better get going! I will keep you posted!

My very first blog entry

For those of you who haven't heard I have accepted an invitation to volunteer with the Peace Corps in Senegal. I will be leaving September 18th to work in an agroforestry program. This essentially means that I will be helping farmers and communities develop sustainable forests by planting a variety of trees.

If all goes according to plan I will use this to update you on my adventures in Senegal. I don't know how often I will have access to the internet but hopefully it will be a couple times a month. So check this link to get the most up-do-date info.
